A minimalist music video shot for London-based Hip-hop artist Peaky shot in San Diego, CA.
About:
Peaky was an incredibly talented young artist from London, who actually stayed with me for a week in my tiny studio apartment in Mission Hills. He was truly a gifted lyricist and producer, and I was consistently in awe of the level of wisdom and intricate soundscapes this skinny 19-year-old casually and prolifically created in such short time spans.
We shot this little video in about an hour or so in the backyard of my friend Bryson’s place, where I had also filmed another music video and shot one of my most popular images for a project entitled A Walk Among Gods.
Our plan was to shoot the performances here and then have Peaky return to London to film some of the narrative segments I had envisioned. The scar on his face was from a car accident where he was hit by a bus, and we intended to convey that in the video. However, upon his return to London, he was unable to complete that task, so I ended up cutting together what I had to create this very simple performance piece, which is essentially a collage of moving photographs.
The sunset that day was breathtaking, and I ended up shooting multiple takes simply because I couldn’t get enough of that Southern California orange hue.
This was all shot on my old little digital Rebel camera with a single lens.
